Aerospace marks need to survive not just day one, but also through:

The materials make it harder.
Aerospace components are often super alloys, considerably harder than hardened steel or aluminum, sometimes marked on the hot side of a jet engine where surface conditions are unforgiving.
Getting a clean, verifiable Data Matrix on those surfaces is a material-science problem as much as a marking problem: the surface roughness of a casting has to correlate to the right Data Matrix cell and module size, or a verification system will read the surface texture as interference. Discoloration from heat-treat cycles can make an otherwise good mark difficult to image.
