Design to Order

Custom Marking Systems, Engineered from the Ground Up

When no standard machine fits your part, your process, or your standard, Monode designs and builds one that does.

Design to Order is our custom-engineering process: We deliver complete marking systems engineered around your application, built and integrated in-house, with Traceable-IT software at the core. Whether you're an OEM embedding a marking cell, an integrator, or an end user buying directly, you work with the engineers who actually build your machine for your exact application.

Phased Process

A Disciplined Process
That De-Risks a Custom Build

A custom machine is a serious investment, so we run a disciplined, enterprise-grade process for both completely custom machines and special additions to standard bases. Our Design-to-Order process also draws on something few competitors have: a deep catalog of custom builds we can adapt from, which shortens the path and lowers the risk.

Design to Order goes through a multi-phase consultative approach to tailor builds around your applications. Timelines run in weeks, not months: a simple cart build usually takes six to eight weeks, a mid-size system ten to twelve weeks, and larger systems twelve weeks or more, from design review through installation.

Engineering Design Review.

You provide your part drawings or 3D and 2D models. We evaluate the components and work through work-holding: the techniques that will hold and present your part correctly, including any existing work-holding methods you want us to incorporate. Work-holding is where many marking projects succeed or fail, and it's a core part of our expertise.

Machine Design Review.

We design the machine around your part and process and review the full design with you before anything is committed to the build.

Build.

We build the system in-house, integrating the mechanics, the marking method, and the software into one machine.

Two-Stage Acceptance Testing.

Before the machine ships, you bring your components to our facility and we run them off on the machine so you see the results before you sign off on the build. After installation at your facility, we replicate that run-off on-site to confirm the system performs in your environment.

Special Machine or Custom Machine:
Two Ways We Build to Order

Not every project needs a machine engineered from scratch. Design to Order covers a range of machines, and knowing where you fall helps the conversation, and often the budget.

Special Machine.

A proven base, adapted to you. We start from a standard machine and add what makes it yours: custom fixtures, work-holding, or bolt-on features engineered for your part.

Custom Machine.

Complete systems engineered from scratch. When your requirement can't be met by adapting a base, we engineer the entire system to your specification.

An eight-axis robotic marking system

Built for a major motorcycle manufacturer, engineered from the ground up to manipulate and mark parts through complex, multi-directional sequences.

A flip-cart design

That solved one customer's problem and went on to become one of our best-selling Design to Order products, now useful well beyond its original application.

A recently delivered marking machine

For a major aerospace engine manufacturer, engineered to that program's specific requirements.

Software

Fully Integrated Software Built into
Every Machine We Build

A custom machine is only as good as the software and controls that that run it. Every Design to Order system is engineered with the control architecture your operation actually uses. When traceability is the point, Traceable-IT sits at the core

Our database-agnostic traceability platform ties each mark to a verifiable record and integrates with the systems you already run. It's the difference between a machine that makes a mark and a system that proves it.

Tell Us About Your
Marking Application

Every machine we build begins with a conversation. Tell us about your part, your process, and the standard you have to meet and we’ll build a custom-engineered machine around your exact application. Drawings or models help, but aren't required to start.
